Our Journey

The South-East Asia Art Association was established on September 26, 1970, under the leadership of the late founding president, Mr. Yeh Chi Wei, making a distinctive impact on the art scene of the 1970s. The initial Ten People Art Exhibition served as the cornerstone for the association's foundation. In 2023, former president Mr. Tan Ewe Liang passed the presidency to Mr. Yeh Toh Yen, ensuring the continuation of the association's mission.

Guided by the philosophy of "Initial aspirations of the art society paint dreams gracefully, A new chapter in art media unfolds a different style," the association aims to celebrate and preserve the beauty of South-East Asian art. We offer opportunities for individuals and groups to showcase their creative works, provide courses in seal engraving and ceramics, as well as various interest classes to cultivate artistic inspiration and preserve traditional cultural heritage. Through relentless efforts, the association has become a significant driver in the South-East Asian art field, expanding onto the international stage and highlighting the artistic charm of South-East Asia.

Our Story

The South-East Asia Art Association was established in 1970, initiated by the late Mr. Yeh Chi Wei, Ms. Tan Seah Boey, Mr. Choo Keng Kwang, and the centenarian artist and Singapore Cultural Medallion recipient Mr. Lim Tze Peng, among others. Its origins can be traced back to the Ten-Men Art Exhibition. Together, they explored countries in Southeast Asia, including India, Thailand, Cambodia, and Nepal. With support from various ministries and embassies, they organized exhibitions at the Victoria Memorial Hall, showcasing their creative achievements.

As the inaugural president of the association, Mr. Yeh Chi Wei, in collaboration with other artistic groups, pioneered an art exhibition for university and high school students. This groundbreaking event received high praise and attention from Southeast Asian and Hong Kong media. The association's acclaimed South-East Asia Art Exhibition in 1974 solidified its prominent position in the Singaporean and regional art scene.

Since 1995, the esteemed Chinese ink painting master, Mr. Wu Molin, has been appointed as the Honorary Chairman and Chief Advisor of the South-East Asia Art Association. Under his meticulous guidance, association members have traveled to various parts of China for sketching and observation, fostering cultural exchange. Upon returning to Singapore, we organize exhibitions to showcase and share the techniques and experiences acquired during these China art and cultural tour.
